I walked into Borders in Boston at Downtown Crossing last week to pick up a book for work, and I found out that Cal Ripken, Jr. would be doing a signing there today for his new book, Get In The Game. So, I had to go as Cal is my favorite baseball player, and I never had the opportunity to meet him before. I didn’t know what to say to Cal, so I simply said, “I’m a huge fan — thank you,” to which he replied, “You’re welcome.” That’s good enough for me!
The people running the book signing were smart in having Cal switch between book signing and taking photos with people. Instead of me hunched over to get in a photo with Cal at the signing table, I got a good one with him standing up.
Thanks, Cal!

I’m dying for some Exchange ActiveSync functionality on my iPhone. I hate having to manually sync my iPhone to update calendar and contact information. Anyone have an iPhone 2.0 beta license they can spare? :)

For those of you who don’t know, one of my favorite video game series (when I get time to play…which is very little these days) is the Ace Attorney series for the Nintendo DS, also known as Phoenix Wright and/or Apollo Justice. In the series, you play a defense attorney who must search for the truth and get his clients a “not guilty” verdict. It may sound boring, but the characters and writing are phenomenal and the games are a must-play. If you own a Nintendo DS, definitely make sure to pick up Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney and thank me later. :)
Anyway, there is a very credible rumor that Capcom will be releasing a prequel to the series where you play as Miles Edgeworth, Phoenix Wright’s prosecutor “nemesis” in the first game. The interesting thing here is not only do we get a game with Miles as the main character, but we get a game where we get to play as the prosecution! It’s a nice change of pace for fans of the series, and I’m curious to see how the game plays out…not just from a gameplay perspective, but also from a story perspective. Characters like Detective Dick Gumshoe will be “back”, and it’ll also be good to learn more backstory on some of my favorite characters.
The only thing that frustrates me about this “announcement” is that the source verifying the rumor is Famitsu magazine in Japan. Famitsu is great, but I can’t really read it! Here’s the 2-page spread covering the story. Can anyone tell me what this says??? (I really wish I hadn’t stopped taking Japanese while at MIT!)

Using the one-click upgrade available on DreamHost, I upgraded this blog to version 2.5 of WordPress. I haven’t had much of a chance to play with it, but it appears to be an improvement in WordPress administration.

Today was the second day of March Madness.
Day 1 = 13 out of 16. Not bad. I can live with it.
Day 2 = 8 out of 16. Awful. Here are the games I have missed so far:
- Miami (FL) over Saint Mary’s
- W. Kentucky over Drake
- San Diego over UConn
- Oklahoma over St. Joseph’s
- Siena over Vanderbilt
- Mississippi State over Oregon
- Arkansas over Indiana
- Villanova over Clemson
I’ve got some ground to make up in my pool, if I’m serious about winning any sort of money this year. The good thing is that it’s still early, so I don’t need to panic…yet.

Part of me thinks Isabella doesn’t really have any idea what she’s doing with her stacking rings, and the other part of me thinks she knows exactly what she’s doing. You decide!

Day 1 of the Road To The Final Four has ended, and I managed to pick 13 of the 16 games correctly. The 3 games I missed were:
- UNLV over Kent St.
- Kansas St. over USC
- West Virginia over Arizona
I need to stop not picking UNLV in the first round. I always seem to think they completely lack the talent they had back in the Larry Johnson days, but clearly I’m wrong. They have enough juice to get into the second round. I don’t think it matters much though, as Kansas should dominate them in the second round.
By the way, Belmont literally threw that game away…it would’ve been nice to see Duke take an early exit, ja?
Anyway, we’ll see how things are looking after tomorrow.

We’re two months into 2008, and I haven’t been overwhelmed by any new music released this year. So far, the highlights for me have been:
- Porcupine Tree — We Lost The Skyline
- Nine Inch Nails — Ghosts I-IV
- Jack Johnson — Sleep Through The Static
Not overly impressive. I suppose if I were a Mars Volta fan , I would feel differently with The Bedlam In Goliath having been released in January.
But, I feel change is on the horizon. Here’s what we can look forward to in upcoming months:
- Counting Crows — Saturday Nights & Sunday Mornings [March 25]
- R.E.M. — Accelerate [April 1]
- Dream Theater — Greatest Hit (…and 21 other pretty cool songs) [April 1]
- Gnarls Barkley — The Odd Couple [April 8]
- Rush — Snakes & Arrows Live [April 8]
- Portishead — Third [April 15]
- Elbow — The Seldom Seen Kid [April 22]
- Flight Of The Conchords — Flight Of The Conchords [April 22]
- Death Cab For Cutie — Narrow Stairs [May 13]
- Coldplay — TBD [May/June]
Not to mention new releases from Dido, The Doves, Massive Attack, and so on and so forth. We may be off to a slow start in 2008, but it looks like things will turn around this spring. I can’t wait!

Dara took this picture of Isabella this morning. I absolutely love it! She’s definitely going to be trouble when she’s older.
